RE: Norcold smoked; Xantrex transfer switch failure

My Xantrex Freedom will blow one or both internal fuses when it has an open neutral for a short period of time. That is probably why your transfer switch won't switch to charge. Since your fridge was not on the inverter circuit as you said, it probably got constant 240v from a single hot leg caused by the open neutral and burned until it was unplugged.

RE: Duramax-changes/over the years

Hang on to that '03. It sounds like you got one with a good set of injectors. Like you said get them tested before the warranty expires. After it does expire, Put a tuner on it and you would be running hp/torque right with the new ones. That LB7 engine is a good one.

RE: Trojan T-105, Wow, what a cost!

I just bough 6 new batteries at Sams for my golf cart. They are made by interstate according to the stickers on them. They were $63 each.

RE: what size generator do I need for 50 amp service ?

I bought the Yamaha 6300 and can run 120v or 240. I can run both my ac's and microwave at the same time. You don't get two 50a legs on 240v however. I believe it is 23-24 amps each. It is quiet and also has an eco throttle. I installed the remote start also. I also have a Freedom 2500w inverter which sometimes gives the generator a boost to start the ac's when on 240v. The 120v starts both ac's easier. I haven't used it much but so far I am impressed. BTW it weighs 200lbs.

RE: Colorado RV Registration Fees

They base prices on year, weight, and length not to mention purchase price. I would think that Nevada would be cheaper since we just got hit with a big fee increase as posted previously.

RE: Will I want to have my generator while FTing?

I added a receiver to my frame and adapted a "hitch-haul" carrier to lock my generator to. I then made a short 6' 50A shorepower cord from an electric range cord and plug it in right around the corner. I wasn't too worried about the extra weight in the back due to the pin weight of my trailer.

RE: 2003 Silverado diesel Dually rear diff fluid capacity

If you are using synthetic oil in the rear diff you do not need the additive. Go to the dieselplace.com if you don't believe me. Here is a quote that summarizes many of the posts there.
"Do some searches, there are several threads that reference studies done by Eaton (manufac of G80) and IIRC, the top three performing gear lubes were Amsoil severe gear, Mobil 1 synthetic and then one by Texaco that is actually what GM buys in bulk. As long as it is a synthetic, GL-5 rated gear lube you should be fine w/o the additives. I use the Mobil 1 75W-90 syn w/o additive and it is fine."

No additive. But you need to use synthetic gear oil.

RE: I think I have a short circuit

It is normal. My Presidential Suite does the same. They are wired just as if they were brake lights on the rear. The bright turn and brake lights over-ride the running lights.

RE: Filling Water Tank on HR Alumascape

I have the same setup on my rig and it works just fine. Maybe you have a small leak in one of your connections or your hose is collapsing under suction. Mine will pump from a barrel @ about 3/4 the pace of a pressurized hose.

RE: Sidewinder hitch

Two things come to mind. The manufacturer of a 41' trailer will probably void your warranty for using the SW on such a heavy trailer. Why are you pulling such a heavy trailer with a shortbed pickup unless it is a 1 ton or better?

RE: Poor Brake Performance - Followup #2

I don't think they are ripping you off. It appears they are charging you retail on parts and a reasonable amount on the labor. Other posters are not adding up all the parts/services you mentioned. Brake assemblies, seals, MAGNETS, turning the rotors, packing the bearings, shop supplies, installation and adjustments. Sure, I would do this job myself and save quite a bit, but you are getting a fair amount of work for a fair price.

RE: Please Pull Over!!

In Colorado you have to pull over not drive on the shoulder to allow faster traffic to pass. This usually only occurs on mountain roads.
Also, starting Aug. 5th, you have to give bicycles a 3 foot cushion when passing them. If you have oncoming traffic, you have to wait behind the bike until it is safe to cross the center line to pass them. This new law is already causing a civil war between motorists and bicyclists.

RE: Yankton SD to Casa Grande AZ

Yes, there is a pass there in historical sense. There is a good story behind it also. But on today's modern highway, it has been cut and bypassed so in essence there is no pass to cross or worry about.
